Artwork checks before the first sheet went on press
Door-to-door print jobs fail quickly when the file is not set up properly, so we started with a full artwork check. That meant checking image resolution, bleed, safe margins, spelling, colour balance and whether the text would still read well after trimming. The client supplied a usable layout, but we tightened the spacing and cleaned up a few small inconsistencies that would have shown up once the flyers were stacked in bundles.
We also checked the practical side of the campaign. The flyer had to be light enough for mass distribution, but still feel substantial in hand. It needed a finish that would handle normal handling in retail areas and on the street, including a bit of coastal humidity as the run would be used beyond Paarl. There was no point producing stock that curled at the edges or marked too easily in transport.
- Artwork checked for bleed, trim, resolution and readable small text
- Colour adjusted for consistent print across the full run
- Layout refined for quick reading from arm’s length
- Final proof approved before production started
Print specs that made the campaign easy to use
The flyer was printed as a full colour single sheet in a practical handout size, with enough space for the promotion, key contact details and a short services list. We used a paper stock that holds colour well and still runs cleanly through folding and packing. The finish was chosen to keep the pieces neat in boxes and to help the print stay crisp during distribution.
For a campaign like this, we usually avoid overcomplicating the spec. The important part is that the piece looks good in a stack and still works when someone picks up just one flyer in a shop, at a gate or from a delivery team. This job was built for quantity and repeat handling, not just display. The print had to support real world use in Paarl and the surrounding Boland towns, where flyers often move from a counter to a pocket to a notice board in one day.
- Full colour flyer printing for bulk distribution
- Trimmed to a handout-friendly size
- Paper selected for clean colour and easy handling
- Quantity planned for area promotion and door-to-door use
Finishing, packing and handover for the route teams
Once the print run was complete, we checked the stack for consistency and then handled the finishing and packing in counted bundles. That matters on campaign work because the people doing distribution need to know exactly how many they have for each street, block or route. A neat bundle is faster to load into a bakkie or carry on foot, and it cuts down on waste when the team is working through Wellington, Paarl and the outer areas.
We also kept the edges tidy so the flyers could be split into smaller counts without tearing. For a door-to-door run, that is a small detail but it saves time in the field. The client collected the job on schedule and could start handing out the material straight away, with no need to sort through damaged stock or rework the bundle count.
On the practical side, we planned the turnaround around normal business operations in Paarl, where traffic, school runs and load-shedding windows can all affect collection and distribution times. The project stayed on track because we kept the prepress approval fast and the packing orderly.
